Song of the South had never been available in the US due to pressure from those thinking it was racist when it appeared in the cinemas. The word is that it will never officially be released either. It had been released in the UK (PAL format) for a number of years but it now also has been deleted in this format since Dec 2001. Unfortunately because of this, prices have started to skyrocket as once each copy is sold they literally become scarcer and scarcer each day.

This delightful Disney film nearly has the qualifications to be called a Sequel to Song of the South. It features:

the same 2 star child actors as in Song of the South

the combination of live-action with animation sequences just like in Song of the South

Features an Academy Award nominated song, (Lavender Blue) just like in Song of the South

this Disney video has a release date of 1949, only three years after Song of the South.

It's a story of a young boy who takes his ill-tempered black sheep to the county fair in the hope of winning a medal. Some critics have even claimed this movie to be better than Song of the South.
