Movie Background:
Song of the
South had never been available in the US due to pressure from those
thinking it was racist when it appeared
in the cinemas. The word is that it
will never
officially be
released either. It had been released in the UK (PAL format) for a number
of years but it now also has been deleted in this format since
Dec 2001. Unfortunately
because of this, prices have started to skyrocket as once each copy is sold they
literally become
scarcer and scarcer each day. Now all you can get are
pirated DVD's and do illegal Downloads of this movie.
|
This delightful Disney film
nearly has the qualifications to be called a Sequel to Song of
the South. It features:
- the same 2 star child actors
as in Song of the South
- the combination of live-action
with animation sequences just like in Song of the South
- Features an Academy Award
nominated song, (Lavender Blue) just like in Song of the South
- this Disney video has a release date of 1949, only
three years after Song of the South.
It's a story of a young boy
who takes his ill-tempered black sheep to the county fair in the
hope of winning a medal. Some critics have even claimed this movie
to be better than Song of the South.

How do you do? Fine! A friendly
greetin'.
How do you do? Say it when you're meetin'.
How do you do? With everyone repeatin':
Pretty good, sure as you're born.
What goes up is sure to come down,
Penny lost is a penny found,
I'll "howdy" you, you'll "howdy" back,
This for that an' tit for tat.
Chorus: How do you do?
Fine, how are you?
How you come on?
Pretty good, sure as you're born.
Stop jumpin', Br'er Rabbit,
you'll run out of breath.
Why don't you sit down an' calm yourself?
Well the grasshopper jump,
and so do the flea.
I do what I like, and I suits me!
Chorus: How do you do?
Fine, how are you?
How you come on?
Pretty good, sure as you're born.
The weather's good, the fishin's fine.
Now what do you do with all your time?
Oh, I zigs and I zags, I to's and I fro's.
That's what you're askin'
and that's what you knows.
Chorus: How do you do?
Fine, how are you?
How you come on?
Pretty good, sure as you're born.
Mind now, Br'er Rabbit, better mend your ways.
You's headin' for trouble one of these days.
Warnin' that rabbit is wastin' your breath!
Don't worry about me. I can take care of myself!

How do you do?
Mighty pleasant greetin'
How do you do?
Say it when you're meetin'
How do you do?
With every one repeatin'
Pretty good sure as you're born.
What goes up is sure to come down.
A penny lost is a penny found.
How do you do?
And here's a hearty back
A little bit of this and a little bit of that.
How do you do?
Fine. How are you?
How you come on?
Pretty good sure as you're born.
Stop jumpin' around,
You'll run out of breath!
Why don't you sit back
And calm yourself?
You can hurry on now if you must.
We'll do what we like, 'cause...
That suits us.

Well we sit and we think

Pretty good sure as you're born.
Pretty good sure as you're born.
Time to be turning around.
Time to be turning around.
Here's lookin' for
A little more adventure.
But he's headed for
A little bit of trouble.
He's headed for
A little bit of danger.
Time to be turning around.
Time to be turning around.

Song of the South your music
weaves a magic spell
Song of the South, I see
the scenes I know so well
Cottonwoods in blossom
over my cabin door
Pale moonlight on a field of white
You bring them back once more
I seem to hear those gentle
voices calling low
Out of the long long ago
This heart of mine is in the heart of Dixie
That's where I belong
Singing a song, a Song of the South.

Verse 3:
They threw the fox into a cage,
But Brother Fox was very sage.
He used his tail to pick the locks,
And that's why they call him "sly old fox".
Verse 4:
Brother turtle and brother hare,
They ran a race and I was there.
The hare dropped in at "Barney's Place,"
And that's how the turtle won the race.
Verse 5:
The little ostrich went to school,
But couldn't learn the golden rule.
The kids all yelled, "Is your face red!"
And that's why the ostrich hides his head.

to his grandmother's plantation where he meets Uncle Remus and is
