Disneyland
Queuing Tips
Disney's
Unique Queues
Probably the most disliked thing about
Disneyland is the queuing for rides. Disneyland is famous for it! While queuing at Disneyland is not
the reason anyone visit's Disneyland they have mastered the art and do it better
than anyone.
-
Themed & decorated
Some attractions line up areas are so well decorated that they become part
of the attractions and are genuinely exciting to stand it. All designed to
make your wait les tedious
eg. Star Tours, Indian Jones, Roger Rabbit
cartoon spin
-
'Wiggly' lines
By curving the line up area around multiple corners makes it physiologically
shorter. You can't see the end of the line meaning you don't know how
far you really have to travel and by the time you figure it out you're
there!
eg. Indian Jones, Roger Rabbit cartoon spin
-
Fast moving
Lines move quickly due to their well organised dispatch method in the
loading area of each attraction. This means you don't stand
in the one spot without moving forward usually for any more than 20
seconds. Unlike a large grocery store line.

Avoiding
Queues
There are a few things you can do
to minimise your waiting time in lines:
-
Go in an off
peak season, (best option)
-
Go early in the morning
-
Stay up until closing time when the
lines drop dramatically!
-
Go on attractions
during parade times,
-
Visit on a rainy day.
-
Wheelchair
guest usually get special privileges and are forwarded to the
front of the queues
-
There are such things as Single Rider
Lines on some attractions which move much faster than the normal lines, currently
on rides such as Splash Mtn and Indiana Jones. DCA has Ca Soarin',
Maliboomer, Mullholland Madness and GRR.
-
Use FastPass...

FastPass
Disneyland (and WDW) has introduced a system
which is designed to cut back on your waiting times in long lines. It's called FastPass. basically
a machine gives you a ticket with
a time frame to return on it that allows you to ride an attraction without
waiting in a long line.

FastPass machines are
currently located at:

How to use a FastPass machine
-
Look for those major rides that have a FASTPASS sign and use the
system.
-
Check the posted wait time for the Standby line. If it's short, you
might as well just go on in and not bother with FASTPASS.
-
Look at the FASTPASS return time on the display. It will show a
range such as "Return between 12:30 and 1:30" if you have a
FASTPASS.
-
If the return time is convenient for you, find the FASTPASS ticket
dispenser machine.
-
Insert your park admission ticket into the slot.
-
Take the special FASTPASS ticket it prints out, and retrieve your
admission ticket.
-
Go have fun. Ride, shop, have lunch, do whatever you want until the
return time on your FASTPASS.
-
Some time within the time range on the ticket return to that
attraction.
-
Enter by the special FASTPASS line and go right in with little wait.
-
Have your FASTPASS ready -- it will be collected at the front of the
line.
-
Enjoy the ride.
Tips:
-
The system is programmed to only issue one FASTPASS per person, so
every member of your group will have to have their tickets scanned by
the FASTPASS dispenser.
-
You can only get a FASTPASS for one ride at a time and won't be
issued a pass at another ride until the first one has expired.
-
Don't wait too long to get a FASTPASS at your favourite ride on a
busy day -- only a limited number are issued.
(from About .com)
IMPORTANT FASTPASS NOTE
Guests can only hold one
FastPass per admission ticket at a time. Guests can not receive a FastPass
for more than one attraction at a time and can't get multiple tickets for the
same attraction. To get another FastPass for the same or a different attraction
a Guest must wait for their current FastPass to expire.
Things to do while queuing
in Disneyland
Sometimes you have no choice on the time of
year you can visit and you may have just discovered that your planing to visit
on a high attendance
day. If this is the case you will inevitably end up waiting over an hour for
some attractions and if you are taking younger children it will feel like even
longer (and also to those next to you in line). The way to make the waiting a
little less tedious is to play some games or do some activities.
